The new Duster E-Tech will add a strong-hybrid powertrain to Renault’s midsize SUV range in India.
Renault India has confirmed that the Duster strong-hybrid will go on sale in India on October 17, 2026. The new E-Tech version will add a third powertrain option to the Duster lineup.
Renault has already confirmed that all Duster hybrid units allocated for 2026 have been sold. Pre-bookings have also been temporarily paused ahead of the official launch.
Renault Duster Hybrid Powertrain Details
The Duster hybrid uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It works with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The traction motor produces 49hp and drives the wheels. A separate 20hp integrated starter-generator supports the hybrid system. Combined system output is around 162 bhp, while maximum torque stands at 172 Nm. The hybrid powertrain will be available only with an automatic transmission.
How The Duster E-Tech Hybrid System Works
Renault’s E-Tech system uses a series-parallel hybrid layout. It can operate in different driving modes based on road and traffic conditions. These include dynamic hybrid mode, electric motion, engine-only driving and energy recovery during deceleration. Renault says this setup is designed to improve efficiency, particularly in city traffic.
The Duster also uses a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox. Unlike Toyota-based hybrid systems, it does not use an e-CVT with a power-split device.
Larger Battery Than Key Hybrid Rivals
The Duster hybrid uses a 1.4kWh battery. This is larger than the 0.60kWh battery used by Toyota-derived hybrid systems in some rival midsize SUVs.

The larger battery is designed to allow longer electric-mode operation at low speeds. Renault’s system can also charge the battery through the petrol engine when required.
Duster Hybrid Price And Availability
Renault has not yet announced the official ex-showroom price of the Duster hybrid. The expected price range is between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 23 lakh, depending on the variant and city.
The company has already sold all hybrid allocations planned for 2026. As a result, bookings have been temporarily paused. Renault may open another booking window based on demand and future delivery slots. The timing of any fresh bookings has not been confirmed.
Renault Duster Hybrid Rivals
The new Duster E-Tech will enter a midsize SUV segment that already has three strong-hybrid models. These include the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Victoris.
With diesel no longer available in the Duster range, the hybrid will provide Renault with another powertrain option. The Duster hybrid will officially go on sale in India on October 17, 2026.
