VinFast VF5 Design Patent

The Indian design patent reveals updated exterior styling, revised cabin features and a more SUV-like appearance for the compact electric car.

VinFast has filed a design patent in India for the facelifted VF5 electric vehicle. The patent images reveal changes to the exterior design, while test vehicles spotted abroad suggest updates to the cabin. However, the company has not confirmed the model’s India launch or final specifications.

VinFast VF5 Facelift: Design Changes

The most noticeable changes appear at the front of the electric vehicle. The updated model features slimmer headlamps positioned lower on either side of a redesigned bumper. The thick black elements beneath the lights have also been reduced, giving the front a cleaner appearance.

The bonnet appears taller and more angular in the patent images. At the rear, the facelifted VF5 features larger connected LED tail-lamps. The reverse lights and indicators are integrated into the light units instead of being placed separately on the bumper.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, although new alloy wheels are expected. Earlier spy images from Vietnam suggested that the updated model could get 16-inch wheels. The vehicle also appears to sit higher, giving it a more traditional compact SUV appearance.

VinFast VF5 Facelift: Expected Interior Updates

The cabin could receive more extensive changes than the exterior. Test vehicles spotted abroad suggest a more upright dashboard and a larger, free-standing infotainment touchscreen. The updated model may also feature a two-spoke steering wheel with flat top and bottom sections.

The facelifted VF5 is not expected to have a separate driver display. Instead, part of the central touchscreen could show driving information. The centre console features a rotary drive selector and two cup holders.

The test vehicle also showed a black cabin with leatherette upholstery instead of fabric seats. However, VinFast has not confirmed which of these features will be available in the Indian version.

VinFast VF5 Facelift: Expected Positioning in India

The VF5 is expected to sit below the VF6 in VinFast’s Indian electric vehicle line-up. The VF6 currently uses a 59.6 kWh battery pack, while the VF5 is available internationally with different battery and motor configurations.

VinFast has not announced the battery capacity, motor specifications or driving range for the Indian-spec VF5. Therefore, its final specifications and pricing remain unknown.

VinFast VF5 Facelift: Expected Rivals

If launched in India, the VF5 could compete with electric SUVs such as the Tata Nexon EV. The Nexon EV is available with 30 kWh and 45 kWh battery options. The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV could also be a key rival in the segment.

However, the VF5’s final position in the Indian market will depend on its pricing, battery options and equipment. VinFast has yet to confirm the model’s launch timeline or India-specific specifications.

For now, the design patent offers an early look at the updated electric vehicle. Further details will depend on an official announcement from VinFast.
