The grand-touring tyres offer reassuring grip and familiar ride comfort, but road noise has increased slightly after 1,500 kilometres.

The Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres have completed around 1,500 kilometres on an Audi A4 in a real-world review. The tyres replaced the car’s original set after approximately 40,000 kilometres of use. Early impressions point to improved driving confidence, similar ride comfort and slightly higher road noise.

The review focuses on everyday city driving and highway use. However, the short distance covered so far does not provide enough evidence to judge long-term durability or tyre wear.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Tyre Specifications

The tyres fitted to the Audi A4 are Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 units marked 225/15 R17. Each tyre carries a stated maximum load rating of 671 kg at 51 PSI. The 51 PSI figure is the maximum pressure marking, not the vehicle’s recommended inflation pressure.

The AE51 is a grand-touring tyre designed to balance grip, stability, comfort and efficiency. Its asymmetric tread pattern aims to support handling and ride comfort. Triple centre ribs are designed to improve straight-line stability, while grooves and sipes help move water away from the contact area. These features reflect the manufacturer’s design goals. Actual performance depends on road conditions, tyre condition and driving style.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Grip and Driving Confidence

The most noticeable change has been the driver’s renewed confidence behind the wheel. The tyres feel reassuring on highways, and the car gives a positive first impression during everyday driving.

However, the comparison has an important limitation. The AE51 replaced the Audi’s original tyres after around 40,000 kilometres. Since the previous set had aged, some of the improvement may come from fitting new tyres rather than from a unique advantage of the Yokohama model.

This is not a controlled comparison between two new tyre sets. Even so, the early experience suggests that the new tyres have restored confidence during highway journeys.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Ride Comfort

Ride comfort remains broadly similar to the level experienced with the original tyres when they were in good condition. The Audi A4 continues to feel composed over potholes and uneven road surfaces.

The tyres have not introduced a noticeable loss of comfort during the first 1,500 kilometres. This is important for drivers who use their cars for daily commutes and longer highway trips.

The AE51 is designed to balance comfort with handling stability. So far, the experience suggests that it suits the Audi’s premium-sedan character.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Road Noise

Road noise is the main drawback noticed during the review. The new Yokohama tyres sound slightly louder than the original set did during the driver’s previous experience.

The difference is noticeable but has not been described as a major problem. Buyers who place a high priority on a quiet cabin should consider this point before choosing the tyres.

However, the old tyres had already covered around 40,000 kilometres. This makes it difficult to compare their noise levels fairly with those of a new set.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Fuel Efficiency

The BluEarth range focuses partly on efficiency, and the AE51 uses a tread-compound design intended to reduce energy loss. Lower rolling resistance can help a vehicle use less fuel under suitable conditions.

However, the Audi A4 has shown no noticeable change in fuel efficiency during the first 1,500 kilometres. This applies to both regular city driving and highway use.

The review has not identified a measurable fuel-saving benefit from the new tyres. More data would be needed to establish whether they affect fuel consumption over a longer period.

Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51: Verdict After 1,500 Km

The Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 has delivered a positive initial experience on the Audi A4. The tyres provide reassuring grip, preserve familiar ride comfort and support confidence during highway driving. Slightly higher road noise remains the main compromise, while fuel efficiency appears unchanged.

The previous tyres had covered around 40,000 kilometres, which limits direct comparisons. The benefits of replacing ageing tyres cannot be separated fully from the specific performance of the AE51.

For now, the tyres appear to suit the car’s everyday driving needs. Their long-term performance will become clearer after more kilometres, particularly as wear, noise and grip are monitored over time.
