The updated three-door SUV gets a new platform, revised suspension and more powerful larger engines.
Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced the updated three-door Thar as the Thar OG in India. Prices start at Rs 10.32 lakh and go up to Rs 17.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
The SUV will be sold in LXT, AXT and ZXT trims. It will also offer three engine choices with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The Thar OG retains the familiar three-door design. However, Mahindra has made several changes to its chassis, suspension and mechanical hardware.
New Platform For Mahindra Thar OG
The Thar OG now uses Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform. This architecture was first introduced with the Thar Roxx. According to Mahindra, the new platform provides higher structural stiffness. The change is aimed at improving the SUV’s on-road and off-road dynamics.
New Rear Suspension Setup
The updated SUV gets a new Penta-link rear suspension with a Watts Link. This setup is also used on the Thar Roxx and Scorpio-N. The new suspension layout is one of the major mechanical changes on the Thar OG. It replaces the earlier rear suspension arrangement.
DAVINCI Technology With FDD
The Thar OG also gets DAVINCI damping technology. It uses Frequency Dependent Damping, or FDD, to change the suspension damping characteristics.
The system responds to suspension movement without using sensors or electronic controls. Mahindra says the setup is designed to improve ride comfort and body control.
More Powerful Petrol And Diesel Engines
The Thar OG keeps the three-engine range available with the earlier model. However, Mahindra has increased the output of its larger engines. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine now produces up to 160 bhp and 330 Nm.

The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine develops 150 bhp and 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine continues with 116 bhp and 300 Nm. This gives buyers petrol and diesel options across the range.
Six Airbags And Four-Wheel Disc Brakes
Mahindra has also made changes to the SUV’s safety equipment. Six airbags are offered across the range for front and rear occupants. The Thar OG also gets four-wheel disc brakes. Higher-spec ZXT variants add a tyre pressure monitoring system and rear-view camera.
Electric Power Steering Added
The Thar OG is the first Thar to use electric power steering. It replaces the hydraulic steering system used by earlier versions. The electric setup reduces steering effort at low speeds. This is designed to make the SUV easier to manoeuvre during daily driving.
Updated Locking Differential And Drive Modes
Mahindra has upgraded the off-road hardware with an electronically assisted locking differential. It replaces the mechanical unit used previously. The SUV also gets Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes. Zip and Zoom drive modes are available as additional driving settings.
Larger 19-Inch Wheels
The Thar OG gets a wider track along with redesigned front and rear bumpers. Mahindra has also introduced new alloy wheel designs. Higher-spec variants are equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels. These are the largest wheels fitted to a Thar so far.
The Mahindra Thar OG is scheduled to reach customers from October 11. Its introductory price starts at Rs 10.32 lakh, with the range extending to Rs 17.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
