The new three-row SUV gets diesel and strong-hybrid powertrains, with AWD available on selected variants.
Kia has launched the new Sorento SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 27.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It sits above the Seltos and becomes Kia India’s flagship internal-combustion engine SUV.
The Sorento competes with models such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Volkswagen Tayron. It is available in six- and seven-seat configurations, depending on the variant.
Kia Sorento: Design and Dimensions
The new Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,785mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,815mm, which Kia says is among the longest in its segment.
The SUV gets an upright design with vertically placed headlamps and DRLs. These elements are paired with Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille. The boxy body also gets 18-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, the vertical tail lamps mirror the design approach used at the front. Kia is offering the SUV with eight exterior paint options, including an all-black finish.
Kia Sorento: Interior and Features
The Sorento gets a technology-focused cabin with two interior themes. Depending on the variant, it comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and either a 4-inch instrument display or a 12.3-inch digital cluster.
Higher variants get Kia’s CCNC navigation system, Kia Connect 2.0 and over-the-air software updates. Other features include a digital key, head-up display and a generative AI assistant.
The feature list also includes ventilated first- and second-row seats. Other highlights include relaxation seats, a 10-way powered driver’s seat and four-way powered front passenger seat.

A panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, powered tailgate and 12-speaker Bose audio system are also available. The second row can be equipped with captain seats that offer reclining and sliding functions.
The SUV uses a three-row layout and can seat up to seven occupants. It also gets remote second-row folding and ISOFIX mounts in the second and third rows.
Kia Sorento: Safety Features
Kia has equipped the Sorento with a range of safety features across its variants. Lower versions get seven airbags and a 26-feature safety package.
Higher variants offer up to 10 airbags and 28 standard safety features. The top version gets a Level 2+ ADAS package with 30 features.
The top-spec model also gets a surround-view monitor and blind-view monitor. Remote parking assistance, a digital inside rear-view mirror and front-and-rear dashcams are included as well.
Multi-collision braking is another feature available on the top specification. The equipment is spread across the HTE, HTK and HTX trims.
Kia Sorento: Engine and AWD Options
The Sorento is Kia India’s first model to offer a strong-hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive. It is also available with a diesel engine.
The hybrid version uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine produces 180 hp, while the motor adds 65 hp. The combined output stands at 238 hp, with 265 Nm of torque.
The hybrid powertrain is offered with all-wheel drive. This makes it the first model in its segment to offer the combination of a hybrid system and AWD, according to Kia.
The diesel model uses a 2.2-litre engine producing 193 hp and 442 Nm of torque. Lower versions get front-wheel drive, while the higher HTX variant comes with AWD as standard.
The Sorento also offers different drive and terrain modes. These modes allow drivers to adjust the vehicle’s driving response for different conditions.
The Kia Sorento is now positioned as the brand’s flagship ICE SUV in India, with diesel and hybrid options covering different buyer needs. Its pricing starts at Rs 27.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with features and drivetrain options varying by trim.
