Nvidia in Talks to Invest in Perplexity

Nvidia is in talks to invest in Perplexity in a new funding round, The Information reported on Sunday. The round could value the AI startup at more than $30 billion, the report said.

The report cited people with knowledge of the talks. If completed at that level, the deal would lift Perplexity’s valuation by more than 50% from its financing a year ago.

The Information reported in September last year that Perplexity had reached a $20 billion valuation. The latest talks would mark a major rise from that level.

Perplexity’s annualised revenue has also grown sharply this year. It has risen to more than $750 million from less than $250 million at the start of the year, the report said.

Part of the growth came from Perplexity Computer, the report said. The cloud-based AI agent is used by professionals to automate computer-based tasks.

Perplexity declined to comment on the report. Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The reported talks come as AI companies continue to attract major investment. Perplexity has also gained support from well-known technology and business investors.

Earlier this year, Perplexity signed a $750 million agreement with Microsoft to use its Azure cloud service. The deal was reported by Bloomberg News.

Perplexity Chief Executive Aravind Srinivas said in a CNBC interview in June that the company plans to go public in 2028. He said the plan would continue regardless of how the market responds to the listings of Anthropic and OpenAI.

Perplexity’s backers include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Japan’s SoftBank Group, along with Nvidia. The reported investment would add to the startup’s list of major technology supporters.

The reported Nvidia investment is still under discussion. The final funding size and valuation will depend on the outcome of the talks.
