BMW will introduce updated versions of its flagship luxury sedans, with bookings already open ahead of the launch.

BMW India is set to launch the updated 7 Series and all-electric i7 in India on September 11. Bookings for both models opened on August 1, while prices will be announced at the launch.

The facelift brings revised exterior styling, a redesigned cabin and several feature updates. BMW is also making changes to the powertrain options across the 7 Series and i7 range.

BMW 7 Series Gets Revised Exterior

The updated BMW 7 Series gets a redesigned front section. It features an illuminated kidney grille and new split headlamps. The slimmer upper lighting units house the daytime running lights. The main headlamp units sit lower in the bumper. The sedan retains its long-wheelbase design and flush door handles. New alloy wheel designs have also been added.

BMW has added an illuminated and embossed “7” motif on the B-pillar. At the rear, the sedan gets slimmer tail-lamps that extend further into the tailgate. The rear bumper has also been redesigned with diffuser-style detailing. New chrome elements and smoked lighting further update the exterior.

Major Changes Inside The Cabin

The 7 Series gets a substantially revised dashboard layout. The cabin features a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 14.6-inch passenger display.

A full-width projected driver information display is positioned at the base of the windscreen. The system runs BMW Operating System X and supports over-the-air updates.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported. BMW has further enhanced the voice control system. A new four-spoke steering wheel is another cabin update. The sedan continues to focus heavily on rear-seat comfort and features.

The equipment includes a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System and updated ambient lighting. Heated and powered rear armrests and massage functions are also offered. The flagship sedan also gets a 31.3-inch Theatre Screen. It supports streaming, video calls and gaming for rear passengers.

7 Series Gets Updated Petrol And Diesel Engines

The 740i xDrive and 740d xDrive continue with 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid engines. Both variants use an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The petrol version now produces 400 hp and 580 Nm of torque. The diesel model develops 313 hp and 670 Nm.

BMW i7 Gets Larger Battery

The electric BMW i7 range also receives powertrain changes. The i7 50 eDrive is replaced by the i7 50 xDrive. The new version adds all-wheel drive and gets a larger 112.4 kWh battery pack.

It produces 455 hp and 660 Nm of torque. The i7 M70 xDrive also adopts the larger battery. Its output rises to 680 hp, while peak torque reaches up to 1,100 Nm.

BMW 7 Series And i7 India Launch

Bookings for the updated BMW 7 Series and i7 are already open in India. BMW will announce their prices at the September 11 launch. The models will continue in India’s flagship luxury sedan segment. They will compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS.

BMW Expands Its India Product Line-Up

The 7 Series and i7 launch follows several recent BMW India product updates. The company has also unveiled the i5 Long Wheelbase ahead of its expected September launch. The i5 LWB will be BMW India’s second locally assembled electric vehicle. It will initially be offered as a First Edition limited to 99 customers.

The model uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 bhp. BMW claims a 0-100 kmph time of 6.7 seconds and a range of up to 669 km under the MIDC test cycle.

BMW India has also launched the X1 Long Wheelbase at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is 116 mm longer than the standard X1 and has a 108 mm longer wheelbase.

The X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces 154 bhp and 230 Nm and uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. BMW will reveal the prices of the updated 7 Series and i7 at the September 11 launch.
