BMW has introduced the i5 LWB as a long-wheelbase electric luxury sedan for the Indian market. It is the first BMW i5 with a long-wheelbase body, measuring 5,175 mm in length. Its 3,105 mm wheelbase gives greater priority to rear-seat space and comfort.
The i5 LWB retains the design and proportions of the 5 Series. However, it adds electric-specific details and a larger focus on rear passengers. BMW has also made changes for Indian road conditions, including additional ground clearance.

The i5 LWB keeps the familiar 5 Series design rather than adopting a completely different electric look. Its exterior gets an illuminated kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights and 20-inch M light-alloy wheels.
The sedan also features a black Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof. A redesigned Hofmeister kink adds a distinct touch to the side profile. At 5,175 mm long, the i5 LWB is a large sedan. Its long bonnet and sloping rear help maintain the proportions associated with the 5 Series.
BMW i5 LWB: Rear Seat Comfort
The rear cabin is one of the main highlights of the i5 LWB. Its longer wheelbase creates more space and allows BMW to offer several comfort-focused features.
The rear seats get sculpted comfort seats, headrest cushions and a 31-degree torso angle. The car also offers four-zone climate control and a Travel and Comfort system with a universal tablet holder.
A wireless charging tray is placed in the rear centre armrest. The panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting and Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system further add to the cabin equipment. The audio system has 17 speakers and a 655-watt amplifier. The illuminated speaker badges are another feature inside the premium cabin.

The front cabin gets BMW’s Curved Display and Interaction Bar. It also features crystal glass elements and integrated air-conditioning vents. The car comes with Driving Assistant Plus. This system includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, lane-change warning and collision warnings.

BMW i5 LWB: Battery, Range and Performance
The i5 LWB uses BMW’s fifth-generation battery-electric vehicle technology. It gets an 81.6 kWh battery with a claimed MIDC range of up to 669 km.
Its electric motor produces 200 kW, or 268 hp, and 410 Nm of torque. BMW claims a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. The electric sedan supports DC fast charging at up to 160 kW. BMW claims a 10-80 percent charge can take around 33 minutes.
An 11 kW AC wallbox takes approximately eight hours for a full charge. Actual range can vary based on driving conditions, speed and other factors.
BMW i5 LWB: India-Specific Changes
BMW has made specific changes to the i5 LWB for Indian conditions. The car gets rear-axle air suspension to help maintain ride height and comfort when fully occupied or carrying luggage.
The Indian-spec model also has 18 mm more ground clearance than the global version. This change is relevant for Indian roads and helps address the challenges created by the sedan’s large dimensions.
