Google’s latest Flash model comes with a cybersecurity version and lower introductory API pricing.
Google has released Gemini 3.8 Flash, its latest Flash AI model, adding a new option for coding, reasoning and agentic tasks. The company announced the model today, along with a cybersecurity-focused version called Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is available in two versions. The standard model is designed as a general-purpose “workhorse” for tasks such as software development and agentic work. Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber uses the same base technology but is tuned to detect and help fix software vulnerabilities.
Google says Gemini 3.8 Flash delivers its strongest reasoning and coding performance among its Flash models. Its benchmark results show modest gains over Gemini 3.7 Flash in most tests, with larger improvements in coding evaluations.
The new model has reached the top of the DeepSWE leaderboard, according to Google. DeepSWE measures how well AI models solve complex software engineering problems. Google also says the model achieves these results at a lower current API cost than some larger models.
For developers, Gemini 3.8 Flash API access is available at an introductory price until the end of 2026. The rate is $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. Google says the regular prices will later rise to $1.50 and $7.50 respectively.
The model also improves computer-use performance, according to Google. In the OSWorld-2.0 test, Gemini 3.8 Flash performs better than Gemini 3.7 Flash. However, the supplied information says it still trails Claude Opus in this test.
Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is aimed at cybersecurity work rather than everyday users. Google says its internal tests showed better vulnerability detection and more frequent working patches than earlier versions.
Google’s Chrome security team reported a 2.6-fold increase in patch accuracy with Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber. The Cloud team also reported that the model found a critical vulnerability within two hours. Google cited cybersecurity companies Wiz and Palo Alto Networks as partners supporting its capabilities.
The cybersecurity model is currently available only to trusted testers and governments. Gemini 3.8 Flash, meanwhile, is rolling out across Google’s ecosystem.
In the Gemini app, users need a Pro or Ultra subscription to access Gemini 3.8 Flash. Google AI Studio also offers a free way to experiment with the model.
The release marks another major Flash update from Google in a short period. The supplied information says Google has not released a frontier-level Gemini Pro model since early 2026.
