A new technology university will be set up in Basila, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said on Saturday. He made the announcement at a student award event at Firoza Bashar Ideal College.
The event honoured students who did well in the 2026 SSC exams. Hajjaj attended the event as the chief guest and spoke to the students.
Hajjaj said Mohammadpur is a major centre for education in Dhaka. He said the area has many good schools and colleges. He also said many educated people in the city live in Mohammadpur.
The state minister said the new university will be built in Basila. He said the plan is part of efforts to develop Mohammadpur. He said the university will help students gain skills in new technology.
Hajjaj urged students to prepare early for a world led by technology. He said the new university will offer a place to build modern skills. He also told students that he hopes the university will be ready by the time they finish HSC.
At the event, Hajjaj also announced a new contest on public leadership. Students from Classes 8 to 12 can take part in the contest. The first prize will be more than Tk 100,000. There will also be prizes for second and third place.
The winners will get a chance to work for one day as “Shadow Ministers” and “Shadow MPs.” Hajjaj said the chance could help students learn about running the country. He also hoped they could take future roles as ministers and members of parliament.
