Honda’s first electric SUV for India will be locally manufactured, with testing underway ahead of its scheduled debut in December 2026.

Honda Cars India has confirmed that the Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV will make its India debut on December 2, 2026. The upcoming model was first shown as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025.

The electric SUV is undergoing testing across India and will be manufactured locally. Honda plans to supply the model to domestic buyers and export markets.

Honda 0 Alpha: Design and Testing

Honda began the SUV’s nationwide testing programme at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan in March 2026. The programme covers highways, city traffic and challenging road conditions.

Engineers are evaluating durability, ride quality, handling, efficiency and reliability. Testing also includes extreme temperatures, heavy rain and different charging infrastructure conditions.

Camouflaged test vehicles retain the prototype’s upright shape and tall roofline. The design features squared wheel arches, smooth body panels and aero-style wheels. A large glass area and the overall body shape appear to focus on cabin space. At the rear, the SUV features an upright tailgate, a large rear windscreen and a roof-mounted spoiler. The bumper also has a layered design.

Honda 0 Alpha: Interior and Features

Spy shots of the test vehicles have revealed some details about the cabin. The interior appears to feature a large, landscape-oriented central touchscreen and a separate digital instrument cluster.

The SUV has also been spotted with a multifunction steering wheel. However, Honda has not yet revealed the final production interior or its complete equipment list.

Honda currently sells the Elevate SUV and City sedan in India. The City is also available with a hybrid powertrain, which combines a petrol engine with an electric motor.

Honda’s Electric Vehicle Plans for India

The 0 Alpha marks an important step in Honda’s plans for the Indian market. The company has identified India as a priority market alongside North America and Japan.

Local manufacturing is expected to support domestic sales and exports. Honda has also highlighted the importance of products suited to local needs and competitive costs.

The next key milestone is the SUV’s scheduled India debut on December 2, 2026. Further details about its battery, range, features and pricing have yet to be announced.
