Tesla India has crossed the 1,000-unit sales mark for the Model Y, according to data available on the Vahan portal. The company had delivered 1,017 units in India as of October 2, 2026.
September 2026 was Tesla’s strongest month in India so far. The company delivered 291 Model Y units during the month, marking a sharp rise from earlier monthly sales.
September Becomes Tesla’s Best Month
Tesla delivered 69 Model Y units in September 2025. The September 2026 figure of 291 units represents a year-on-year increase of more than 322 per cent.
Sales also rose sharply compared with August 2026. Tesla delivered 117 units that month, meaning September sales increased by nearly 149 per cent.
The growth came as India’s electric passenger vehicle market continued to expand. The segment recorded 35,995 retail sales in September, with Tesla accounting for about 0.8 per cent of the total.
Sales Rise Sharply From July
Tesla’s India sales remained modest during most of its first year. Monthly deliveries stayed between 29 and 69 units from September 2025 through June 2026.
The trend changed in July 2026. Tesla delivered 116 units that month, compared with 38 units in June. Sales then reached 117 units in August before rising to 291 units in September.
More than half of Tesla India’s total Model Y deliveries came during the latest three-month period. Between July and October 2, the company delivered 554 Model Ys, around 54 per cent of its total Indian deliveries.
Model Y Price Cut
Tesla also reduced the price of the Model Y Premium RWD in May. The price reduction was around Rs 9 lakh, bringing the starting price to Rs 50.89 lakh.

Model Y Specifications
The Model Y Premium RWD uses a 64 kWh battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor. The motor produces 299 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Tesla claims a WLTP range of 500 km for this version. WLTP is a standard used to measure vehicle efficiency and driving range under controlled test conditions. The larger Model Y L uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive. It produces a claimed 514 hp and 590 Nm of torque.
Tesla India has not disclosed the battery capacity of the Model Y L. International specifications indicate an 88.2 kWh battery, along with a claimed WLTP range of 681 km.
Tesla Moves to Second in Luxury EV Segment
Tesla’s strong September performance also improved its position in India’s luxury electric vehicle market. The company moved into second place in the segment for the first time.
Tesla recorded 291 electric vehicle sales in September. Mercedes-Benz India reported 125 units during the month, while BMW India led the segment with 502 electric vehicle sales.
The Model Y competes with electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BYD Sealion 7 in India. With cumulative deliveries crossing 1,000 units, Tesla has reached a key sales milestone in its Indian market journey. The latest Vahan data shows that September was the company’s strongest month since entering the market.
