The electric SUV recorded 4,508 wholesale dispatches in August, narrowly ahead of Tata Punch EV.
Mahindra XEV 9S emerged as India’s best-selling electric passenger car in August 2026. According to wholesale dispatch data compiled by AutoPunditz, Mahindra sent 4,508 units of the electric SUV to dealerships during the month.
Tata Motors’ Punch EV followed with 4,430 units. The gap between the two models stood at only 78 units, highlighting the close competition in India’s electric car market.
Mahindra XEV 9S Sales Rise In August
The XEV 9S also recorded month-on-month growth in August. Its dispatches increased 9.1 percent from 4,131 units in July. Customer deliveries for the XEV 9S began in January 2026. Mahindra offers the electric SUV with three battery pack options.
These include 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh units. Mahindra claims a driving range of 521km to 679km, depending on the variant. Prices for the XEV 9S start at Rs 20.65 lakh, ex-showroom.
Tata Punch EV Takes Second Spot
The Tata Punch EV finished second in the August sales chart. Its 4,430-unit dispatch figure was more than three times its August 2025 tally of 1,476 units.
The Punch EV also has a lower starting price of Rs 9.79 lakh, ex-showroom. Tata’s Nexon EV took third place with 3,975 units in August. The Nexon EV recorded 44 percent year-on-year growth during the month. The figures show strong demand for several Tata electric models.
MG Windsor EV Holds Fourth Place
MG Motor’s Windsor EV ranked fourth with 3,705 units dispatched in August. However, its dispatches fell 18 percent from the 4,511 units recorded in August 2025.

Tata’s Harrier EV secured fifth place with 2,103 units. Mahindra’s XEV 9e followed in sixth position with 2,001 units. Tata’s Sierra EV stood seventh with 1,930 units. VinFast’s LimoGreen was close behind with 1,901 units.
Tata Tiago EV And Mahindra BE 6 Complete Top 10
The Tata Tiago EV recorded 1,730 units and ranked ninth in August. Mahindra’s BE 6 completed the top 10 with 1,696 units. The BE 6 recorded a 9 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The August rankings also underline the presence of multiple brands across India’s electric car market.
Tata EVs Maintain Strong Presence
Five Tata models featured in the August top 10. The Punch EV, Nexon EV, Harrier EV, Sierra EV and Tiago EV together recorded 14,168 units. According to AutoPunditz, this combined figure highlights Tata’s presence across several electric vehicle segments. Mahindra also placed three models in the top 10, including the XEV 9S, XEV 9e and BE 6.
Wholesale Dispatches Vs Customer Deliveries
The August figures are based on manufacturer dispatches to dealerships. They do not represent actual customer deliveries. Registration data from Vahan can therefore show a different sales picture.
The wholesale dispatch figures provide the reported August ranking based on vehicles sent to dealerships. The August sales data places the Mahindra XEV 9S at the top of the wholesale dispatch chart, followed closely by the Tata Punch EV.
