Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk says he can continue to work with the government’s department of efficiency through President Donald Trump’s second term, as he asked him to move away from politics.
Musk said he plans to reduce his role in Doge to a “day or two” a week from next month “or while the president would like me to do and, as long as it is useful.”
The executive made his comments about Tesla’s quarterly call, just an hour and a half after Tesla admitted in a letter of shareholders that “political feeling” is damaging the company’s sales. Musk’s participation in the Trump administration, along with the increase in competition and the mess of Trump tariffs contributed to a 71% decline in profits compared to the last quarter. Musk’s work with doge, to scrape the system’s government agencies and – in Musk’s words – feed a “no The Wood Chipper,” led to protests around the world. Musk tried to say that the demonstrations were “paid” on Tuesday, but he didn’t provide any tests. He said the people present are “protesting because they are receiving fraudulent money or the recipients of waste,” again without providing any proof or trying to justify this line of thought.
Musk said the “main work of establishing” Doge is over, which would allow him to retreat his involvement. Musk is technically “special government worker” and his work is limited to 130 business days a year. A comment for comment was not immediately answered by the White House.
